Seeing the Gospel in Children's Literature

A live workshop for Christian parents and educators who want to read wisely, recognize truth, goodness, and beauty in literature, and cultivate meaningful conversations with their children.

Sunday, November 22, 2026 | 8:30 PM Central

Have you ever finished a wonderful book with your children and found yourself thinking about the deeper truths woven throughout the story?

Perhaps it was a character's unexpected sacrifice, a beautiful act of forgiveness, or the triumph of good over evil.

Great stories have a remarkable way of helping us understand the world around us, the human condition, and even the greater Story of redemption.

But how do we recognize these truths in the books we're reading? And how can we share them with our children without turning every story into a moral lesson?

That's exactly what we'll explore in Formed by Stories!

In this live workshop, we'll look at how the stories we read with our children can point us toward the gospel, helping us recognize the transcendent ideas of truth, goodness, and beauty woven throughout children's literature.

From beloved picture books to the chapter books we read aloud before bed, we'll explore how to approach stories with wisdom, wonder, and a Christian worldview.

What We'll Explore

  • Why stories matter: How literature shapes our imaginations, affections, and understanding of the world.

  • Recognizing echoes of the gospel: How themes of sacrifice, redemption, forgiveness, courage, and hope appear throughout children's literature.

  • Truth, goodness, and beauty: Learning to recognize these transcendent ideas in the books we read.

  • Reading with a Christian worldview: Understanding how even books that aren't explicitly Christian can reflect truths about God's world.

  • Having meaningful conversations: How to engage with your children about stories naturally, without turning every book into a moral lesson.

My hope is that you'll leave this workshop feeling encouraged and equipped to read more deeply, recognize the beauty and truth within excellent literature, and cultivate a home where wonderful stories are enjoyed, discussed, and treasured.
